can you say "p-phenylenevinylene"? i can't either, but this thin pliable plastic compound, discovered in the labs of Britain's Cambridge Display Technology in 1989, glows greenish yellow when given an electric charge. since then, scientists have figured out how to make it produce red and blue light as well. Whammo!, we now have the "roll-up tv".
