italian police shut down five american web sites
two italian citizens "allegedly" posting pornographic and offensive material relating to the Madonna [the image of jesus' mom, not the singer] are under investigation, potentially facing fines and up to three years in prison. the kicker: the sites are all located on american servers [new jersey, to be exact] where that kind of free speech is still protected, regardless of who finds it offensive. how do they justify these insanely invasive actions, you ask? they don't. nevertheless, they log on to the alleged offender's box [in rome] and, without consent of the "offender" or the web servers' owners, removed the images they found offensive, and replaced them with insignias of the italian special police unit that tracked them down. here's the article. can anyone say, "double plus ungood ref removed"?
