far cry map editor movie
the island-based shooter far cry instincts for xbox [release date: 9/1/2005] has a very well-developed and crazy simple built-in map editor. the editor's been custom-designed for use with the xbox controller, and really could not be more easy to use. you start with blank ocean, and from there can build terrain [hills, beaches, valleys] from scratch, add vegetation, buildings, weapons, healthpacks, and spawn points anywhere you want. you can also go back and forth between edit mode and play mode just by toggling the back button. here's a vid of the far cry map editor in action.

while i haven't read much about far cry instincts, what excites me about this feature is seeing that someone's managed to create a highly functional yet very simplistic map editor for the xbox console. combine that with the completely unconfirmed rumours that halo 3 just might perhaps have a map editor, and we could be seeing something like this for the next installment of halo. i'm weak in the knees just considering the possibilities. don't get me wrong, i'm loving the new maps, especially backwash and turf, but if there's a map editor in halo 3, i'll probably never again be able to keep a steady job. that's gotta be the one aspect of halo that would overcome my current resistance to complete and total addiction. mmm. halo map editor. mmm.
